Article Writing Tips-Ways to Pick Attention-Getting Article Titles

Here you will find some article writing tips that can help you write appealing articles. Your article title is one area you do not want to handle carelessly.

You should use a title that will make people want to read your article; what is the point writing the best article in the world if in the end nobody notices it so as to read it?

All too often, some writers spend quite some time researching and writing their articles and then later come up with one article title or the other, mostly as an afterthought. But do not get me wrong: there is absolutely nothing wrong in writing first and then choosing a title later.

The problem is in merely clothing your article with whatever title you think describes it without serious considerations. You should be concerned with a title that is compelling enough to make people stop and notice your article and its message.

The following are a few types of article titles that are proven to attract attention and arouse interest in readers:

Type 1: The Question Title, Most of us started asking questions soon as we learnt to talk. The human brain is designed in such a way that we are always seeking answers to questions—even those posed by others. And when we find a subject that touches on something that interests us in some way, our interest in the question increases.

Isn’t it true that questions on the cover of books and magazines are often the first things that draw our attention to those publications? Have you not personally reacted to such questions on magazine covers as the following?”

Is Your Doctor Lying About Your Healthcare Options?” “Is Your Credit Rating Worse Than You Think?” “Is Your Child At Risk For Cancer?” “Is Your Business At Risk For Financial Failure?” “Are We Running Out Of Clean Water?” “Is Your Food Killing You?”

The thing about questions like these is that even if you had positive feeling towards any or all of the questions posed above, these questions could still create nagging doubts that eats at you until you take a decision to glance through the article, just to make sure you are not missing something important.

And after reading through the main points, you might have decided that the article was interesting or useful enough to warrant your buying a copy to take a closer look when you got home. In the end, the article title just served its purpose, namely, to sell a copy of that magazine! That is the magic of question types of titles.

Type 2: The “How-To” Title: In “how-to” article titles, you are to promise your prospective readers that you are going to tell them exactly how to do a particular thing—mostly in a step-by-step manner of explanation.

“How-to” titles are great for the many do-it-yourself type of people out there, you know the people who are interested in learning how to solve their own problems by themselves. And do you blame them?

The internet has given us the mostly true impression that ANY skill can be mastered by ANYBODY who brings his problem to the internet. And what’ is the principal way of educating people on the net? You guessed it: the written word—articles! Thus How-to article titles are as attractive as the question type, if not really more catchy.

Examples of How-to article titles include the following: “How To Double Your Income Without Working Overtime” “How To Get More Done In Less Time” “How To Generate Free Traffic For Your Online Business” “How To Talk To Any Woman—And Win Her!” “How To Succeed In Online Business”

In using How-to titles, ensure you actually tell people the way or techniques for achieving the goal you mentioned in the title. It would be deceitful and destructive to your business to promise these tips only for you to merely introduce the topic and then direct readers to your website for details!

You could easily lose people’s trust if you go about it that way. Supply useful information based on the topic, in the end readers will voluntarily want to visit your site to see how else they can benefit form your expertise.

To ensure you do not waste your article marketing efforts, take the time to craft an attention-getting title. This will ensure that your article will be noticed and read.
